Today, the Las Vegas City Council met and heard an emergency ordinance that would ban certain large items like backpacks and strollers from protests. It passed unanimously as required by the emergency status and was not previously noticed. The ordinance will be in effect until July 31st. Clark County Commission called an emergency meeting to discuss a mostly similar ordinance but continued discussion to the June 16th meeting. Public comment at both meetings was overwhelmingly in opposition, as people are concerned about First Amendment rights, enforcement, and carrying essential items.

Governor Sisolak issued the following statement via press release:
“To all Nevadans lawfully protesting in the Valley this evening and this week: volunteer lawyers will be observing these protests. These legal observers will be wearing red T-shirts that say “LEGAL OBSERVER” — if you have any questions about how to lawfully express your rights or what conduct is lawful, please seek out one of these volunteers.”
