Daily Update- January 21, 2021: COVID-19 Update

The State’s COVID-19 Task Force met today, and we learned more about the effects of the holidays on the virus transmission. The State Biostatistician stated, based on previous post-holiday trends, it is likely that we have seen the full impact of Christmas gatherings in our case trends and test positivity. The impact of New Year’s will continue to be present through the end of January. The state is observing a much smaller holiday impact than was anticipated, and it is unlikely there will be additional significant increases caused by the holidays. As of January 19, 116,041 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered and reported to NV WebIZ. Starting this week, part of Nevada’s allocation of COVID-19 vaccine doses will be provided to pharmacies that have agreed to assist in the vaccine distribution process starting with those 70 and older. 36,825 first doses were allocated to Nevada for next week.
