Almost three weeks ago, on July 30th, Nevada reinstated a mask mandate and updated mask guidance. The positivity rates have gone down slightly in Clark County, and raised slightly in Washoe and other counties. Data from the Nevada State Public Health Lab released this week show the highly transmissible Delta variant is now responsible for more than 9 in 10 new infections in the state. In the 14-day period leading up to Aug. 6, the Delta variant was responsible for 93 percent of sequenced COVID-19 cases in the state. The previous week, it was responsible for 85 percent of cases, and the week before that, 84 percent. Since the beginning of the pandemic, statewide there have been 369,846 COVID-19 cases confirmed, which means about 1 in 8 Nevadans have tested positive for the virus. According to the most recent numbers available, about 55% of Nevadans are either partially or fully vaccinated.
